Cardholder information must not be held or transferred over the Internet without Secured Socket Layer (SSL) encryption.
(i.e. using a Netscape Commerce server in order to operate with Secure Socket Layers and SSL digital certificates or SET Secure Electronic Transactions, utilizing merchant SET certificates).
In the absence of encryption technology, the on-line merchant may accept the order over the Internet and obtain card information via telephone or fax.
