e-SELECT

Q and As

  1. What is e-SELECT?

e-SELECT is a virtual POS terminal. e-SELECT is a hosted service, meaning that you do not buy/rent your own POS terminal which you install on your premises, rather the virtual POS terminal is hosted by the Royal Bank

  2. Who may use e-SELECT?

e-SELECT is designed for merchants who already have a web site presence. If you have a web site e-SELECT can accommodate you, even if you do not currently have an integrated shopping cart. Any size merchant regardless of the volume of transactions they process can use e-SELECT.

e-SELECT is also targeted at web developers who are looking for a payment solution to integrate with their shopping cart.

  3. What is the pricing for e-SELECT?

It is important to differentiate between the pricing for e-SELECT, which is the virtual POS terminal fee, versus the pricing for an Internet Visa Merchant Account. Fees for e-SELECT vary according to which monthly package you choose. Your choice depends on your expected volumes. All monthly packages require a set up fee of $500 if you choose either CAN$ or US$ (or $750 for both CAN$ and US$), plus a monthly fee. Monthly fees include a base number of free "usages", with extra "usage" charged separately. For further information on pricing, click here.

  4. What is "usage"?

Usage is any transaction, including pre-authorizations, sales captures, refunds, and voids.

  5. Is the set up fee for e-SELECT refundable if the merchant does not go live?

The setup fee is refundable if your Internet Visa merchant account is not approved or in cases where we are unable to integrate e-SELECT with your shopping cart. If, on your own accord, you decide not to implement e-SELECT, the setup fee is not refundable.

  6. How long will it take me to get set up with e-SELECT?

There are two parts to getting setup with e-SELECT. You must obtain a Royal Bank Internet Visa Merchant Account and must enroll with the e-SELECT service. Both requests can be submitted using the e-SELECT enrollment form. Obtaining a Royal Bank Internet Visa Merchant Account normally takes between 7 to 10 business days.

The set up of the e-SELECT service will depend on a number of factors including: current stage of web site development, complexity of the web site, whether a shopping cart is already integrated into the site and which shopping cart is being used. Generally, you should be able to be set up with e-SELECT within a few days after the Internet Visa Merchant account has been approved.

  7. Who provides "after sales support" for e-SELECT?

After Sales Support is provided by Royal Bank. You can call our Help Desk at 1-800-268-8644, for both financial related questions (e.g. I don't understand what went through my account) and for technical questions. In addition, you will have internet access on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis, to back end reporting for your account.

  8. Who do I speak with if I have technical questions during the set up phase of e-SELECT?

You would call the Royal Bank Help Desk at 1-800-268-8644.

  9. How long does it take to process a transaction through e-SELECT?

An end to end transaction, from the time the consumer clicks on the "Pay" button until they receive the transaction receipt, takes less than 30 seconds.

  10. What type of reporting is available to me?

You will have browser based (i.e. through the Internet) access to back end reporting on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week basis.

  11. What is the security behind e-SELECT? Is it SET-enabled?

e-SELECT uses SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology. Currently, e-SELECT does not handle SET transactions.

In addition, following the transaction, cardholder data is stored in accordance with Royal Bank security standards.

  12. Is there a contract period for e-SELECT?

No, there is no minimum contract period.

  13. Is Single Stream Settlement (SSS) available on e-SELECT?

No, Single Stream Settlement is not available on e-SELECT.

  14. How are "other card types" handled with e-SELECT?

With e-SELECT, you can process Visa transactions (CAD$ and US$), MasterCard transactions (CAD$ and US$) and American Express transactions (CAD$ only). Merchants will still need to establish a merchant account with a MasterCard bank and with American Express. Your Royal Bank sales representative can provide you with contact information for these organizations.

  15. Can I view a demo of e-SELECT?

Click here to view a demo of e-SELECT.

  16. How will I be billed for e-SELECT?

Monthly fees for e-SELECT will appear on your Royal Bank monthly Merchant Activity Statement as "Internet Fee". When the fees are debited to your Current Account, they will appear as "POS Fees". If you use both a physical terminal and e-SELECT (a virtual terminal) you will see two debits on your Current Account, both using the header "POS Fees".

  17. How do I sign up for e-SELECT?

If you wish to complete an enrollment form, click here. Alternatively, you can call your Visa Sales representative or call 1-800-268-8644 or send an e-mail to Merchant.Services@royalbank.com.

  18. If I decide at a later date to discontinue using e-SELECT, is there a termination fee?

No, there will be no termination fee.
