RBC Rewards Avion Terms & Conditions

1. What the Words Mean:

“I”, “me” and “my” mean the Applicant for the RBC Royal Bank® Visa* Platinum Avion® Account or the RBC® Visa Infinite* Avion Account, and the Business Applicant, a Business Owner and a Cardholder for the RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion Account; and “the Bank”, “you” and “your” mean Royal Bank of Canada;

“Account” means the RBC Royal Bank Visa Platinum Avion or the RBC Visa Infinite Avion (“Personal Avion”) Account, or the RBC Royal Bank Visa Business Platinum Avion (“Business Avion”) Account opened in the name of the Applicant, Co-Applicant or a Cardholder;

“Account in Good Standing” means an Account that is not more than two (2) Account Statement periods past due and is not closed, charged off or in credit revoked status, all according to your credit risk policies in effect from time to time;

“Account Statement” means the paper or electronic statement of the Account that you prepare approximately every four (4) weeks (the period covered by each Account Statement will vary between twenty-seven (27) days and thirty-four (34) days);

“Applicant” means the individual or entity who/which has submitted the Application as the applicant;

“Application” means the request made to you for the Account and a Card;

“Authorized User” means an individual, other than an Applicant and a Co-Applicant, to whom you have issued a Card on my Account at my request or at the request of a Co-Applicant;

“Avion Air Travel Reward” means airline travel booked at least fourteen (14) days in advance of departure and redeemed from the Redemption Schedule, as set out in Section 28 below;

“Business Applicant” means the Applicant for a Business Avion Account;

“Business Owner” means an individual Business Applicant or owner/partner of the Business Applicant authorized to give you directions regarding the participation of the Business Applicant and Cardholder in the Program;

“Card” means any credit card you issue on the Account and all renewals of and replacements for that credit card;

“Cardholder” means an individual to whom you have issued a Card;

“Cash Advance” means an advance of cash that is charged to the Account with or in connection with the Card including but not limited to Visa cheques, bill payments, balance transfers and Cash-Like Transactions;

“Cash-Like Transactions” means transactions that involve the purchase of items that are similar to or easily converted to cash and that you designate for treatments as Cash Advances;

“Charity Reward” means a redemption of Points as a charitable donation to the Canadian Olympic Foundation’s “Own the Podium” campaign, “Hope Air” and such other registered charitable organizations as you may designate from time to time;

“Co-Applicant” means an individual who has submitted the Application as a co-applicant;

“Point(s)” means RBC Rewards points credited to my RBC Rewards Account;

“Program” means the RBC Rewards Program that allows me to earn and redeem Points for Rewards;

“RBC Financial Rewards means the vouchers I may redeem Points for and which I may contribute to or apply towards any of your following registered and non-registered financial products, as set out in Sections 22 and 26 below: RBC Mortgage, RBC Homeline Plan®, Royal Credit Line®, RBC Personal Loan and RBC Registered Rewards®;

“RBC Mortgage” means a 1st ranking residential mortgage (in Quebec, a hypothec) on an owner-occupied residential property of four (4) units or less, or an RBC Homeline Plan, granted by me as borrower or co-borrower to Royal Bank of Canada, Royal Trust Corporation of Canada or The Royal Trust Company;

“RBC Personal Loan” means a loan granted to an individual for personal use including a Royal Buy-Back® car loan, as well as variable rate, fixed rate and conditional sales contracts through our retail dealer services that are assigned to Royal Bank of Canada. This excludes any loan that is not in good standing both at the time my Points are redeemed and the time the RBC Financial Rewards voucher is applied towards my loan;

“RBC Registered Reward” means the following financial products: Registered Retirement Savings Plan (“RRSP”) and/or Registered Education Savings Plan (“RESP”) held with Royal Bank of Canada, RBC Dominion Securities Inc. or RBC Direct Investing Inc.

“RBC Rewards Account” means the nominal account you open and maintain in my name for the crediting and debiting of Points earned or redeemed in connection with the Program;

“RBC Travel Rewards” means all travel rewards redeemed as set out in Sections 27, 29 and 30 below, other than an Avion Air Travel Reward;

“Redemption Schedule” means the current Avion Air Travel Redemption Schedule which you will issue from time to time. I will have received a copy of the Redemption Schedule with my Card, and the current Redemption Schedule may be found on your web site at www.rbcrewards.com;

“Reward(s)” means Avion Air Travel Rewards, RBC Travel Rewards, merchandise, gift certificates/cards redeemable for merchandise or services at select merchants, RBC Financial Rewards vouchers and Charity Rewards I may select under the Program;

“Statement Date” means the last day of the period to which an Account Statement relates; and

“Terms” means these RBC Rewards Avion Terms and Conditions.

I agree with you as follows:

2. General Terms: These Terms apply to the Program. These Terms replace all prior terms and conditions with respect to the Program.

3. Acceptance of Terms: If I activate, sign or use my Card, it will mean that I have received and read these Terms and that I have understood and agreed with you to everything written here. Notwithstanding any other section of these Terms, publication of an RBC Rewards catalogue containing the current version of the Terms and the posting of the current version of the Terms at www.rbcrewards.com shall be deemed notice to me of such Terms, where notice is required or permitted to be given hereunder.

4. Eligibility: The Program is available to me if I have a Card and an Account in Good Standing. For a Personal Avion Account, Points in the RBC Rewards Account are solely for the benefit of the Applicant, subject to the rights of a Co-Applicant to redeem Points as set out in Section 11. For a Business Avion Account, Points in the RBC Rewards Account are solely for the benefit of the Business Applicant, subject to the rights of a Business Owner or Cardholder to redeem Points as set out in Section 11, unless the Business Applicant or a Business Owner has requested that Points from multiple RBC Rewards Accounts be combined and consolidated as set out under Section 21 below.

While all Cards are automatically included in the Program for the purposes of earning Points, Authorized Users, Co-Applicants, Business Owners and Cardholders are not participants in the Program and have no rights against you under these Terms, notwithstanding Co-Applicants’ (in the case of a Personal Avion Account) and Business Owners’ and Cardholders’ (in the case of a Business Avion Account) ability to redeem Points as set out above.

5. Points: The Program is based on Points. Points awarded on the Program have no cash value and do not constitute my property for any purpose. Points may only be transferred to another person as set out in Section 13 below. Points may only be consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred to another loyalty program as set out in Section 21 below.

6. Earning Points For Net Purchases:

a. Visa Platinum Avion card

My RBC Rewards Account is awarded one (1) Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to my Account during the operation of the Program.

b. Visa Infinite Avion card - Travel Purchases Points Accelerator

My RBC Rewards Account is awarded i) one (1) Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to my Account during the operation of the Program, other than Travel Purchases ii) and 1.25 Point for every CAD $1.00 in Net Purchases charged to my Account during the operation of the Program, which are Travel Purchases. A “Travel Purchase” is a travel-related purchase made at merchants who are classified by a merchant category code as “travel”, which include: airlines, accommodations, cruises, tour packages, travel agencies and car rentals. Some merchants may sell theses products/services or are separate merchants who are located on the premises of these merchants, but are coded in another manner, in which case this added benefit would not apply.

Credits for returns or adjustments reflected on my Account Statements during the operation of the Program will reduce or cancel the Points earned by the amounts originally charged.

For the purposes of this Section 6, “Net Purchases” means purchases of goods and services that I or any Co-Applicant, Authorized User or any other Cardholder charge to my Account, less any credits. No Points shall be earned in respect of Cash Advances, interest charges, fees or for the redemption of Points.

Points are only available for redemption after the Statement Date of the Account Statement on which the transactions for which the Points were earned and the Points earned first appear. Transactions that take place prior to the Statement Date of an Account Statement will not appear on the Account Statement if they have not been posted or processed by the merchant, the Visa system or you by the Statement Date. I will not be awarded any Points for transactions that have not yet appeared on my Account Statement. If my Statement Date would otherwise fall on a holiday or weekend, it will generally be advanced to the preceding business day. As a result, the posting of some transactions and the appearance on the Account Statement of the Points for those transactions may be delayed to the next Account Statement.

7. Additional Points: You may, but are not obligated to, make arrangements with selected merchants or service establishments from time to time that allow me to earn additional Points for purchases charged to an Account. Your Rewards Network^ Restaurant Program1, Carlson Wagonlit Travel^ Program2 and Thrifty Car Rental^ Program3 are examples of such additional Points earning opportunities.

I will refer to www.rbcrewards.com for full details of these programs and other opportunities that you may make available to me to earn additional Points from time to time.

8. Redemptions and Returns: On the date I request my Reward, my RBC Rewards Account will be debited the number of Points I am required to redeem for that Reward.

If, for any reason, I cancel my Avion Air Travel Reward or RBC Travel Reward request, my Account and my RBC Rewards Account may be credited the amount I spent and/or the appropriate number of Points I redeemed, on the date of receipt by you of the relevant information, depending on
(i)the cancellation policies of the travel supplier,
(ii) the time of the year (high or low season) and
(iii) my Trip Cancellation4 or Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance4, if applicable. For full details, I will consult my travel counselor from the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location before I complete the redemption of Points.

Provided I am covered by a Trip Cancellation or by a Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance, I understand that my Certificate of Insurance contains provisions that may limit or exclude coverage and for full details, I will refer to my Certificate of Insurance or call Assured Assistance, at 1-800-533-2778 toll-free from the US and Canada, or (905) 816-2581 collect from anywhere in the world.

If, for any reason, I return merchandise, a gift certificate/card or a RBC Financial Rewards voucher to you for cancellation, my Account will be credited the amount I spent and my RBC Rewards Account will be credited the appropriate number of Points I redeemed on the date of receipt by you of the relevant information.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, I understand that some redemptions are final and cannot be returned or cancelled for credit; when a no-return policy applies to a Reward I have requested, you will notify me before I complete the redemption of Points.

9. Points Verification:

  1. A section of each of my Account Statements will show my Points transactions and balance (“Points Statement”). Each month, I will examine promptly my Points Statement and each entry and balance recorded in it. If I do not notify you in writing of any errors in, or objections to, a Points Statement, or an entry or balance recorded in it, within ninety (90) days from the Statement Date indicated as such on the Account Statement, you are entitled to treat the entries and balance in that Points Statement as complete, correct and binding on me and you will be released from all claims that may be asserted by me in respect of such Points Statement, entries and balance.
  2. I will not obtain any credit for erroneous or omitted Points transactions if I do not notify you of the error or omission within one (1) year of the date of the erroneous or omitted transaction.

10. Records of Points and Rewards: Your records of my Points and/or Rewards shall be final, conclusive and binding on me. You may use a microfilm, electronic or other reproduction method of any Points Statement or other document to establish my Points transactions and balance and/or my Rewards.

11. Redemption of Points:

  1. Points must be redeemed during the operation of the Program and during the time that my Account is an Account in Good Standing.
  2. For a Personal Avion Account, a Co-Applicant may also redeem the Points in my RBC Rewards Account at any time. For a Business Avion Account, a Cardholder may redeem Points in that Cardholder’s RBC Rewards Account provided that the Business Applicant has not made a request to you under Section 21(b) with respect to any such redemption by a Co-Applicant or a Cardholder. If a Co-Applicant or any other Cardholder redeems the Points in my RBC Rewards Account, you may deem them to be doing so as my agent, with full authority to redeem on my behalf, even if my Points are redeemed for the benefit of the Co-Applicant, an Authorized User, a Cardholder or any other person.
  3. You may, but are not required to permit me to designate an authorized agent in your prescribed manner to obtain information from you regarding my RBC Rewards Accounts, redeem Points on my behalf, and generally give instructions to you regarding my participation in the Program.
  4. Points that remain unredeemed as of ninety (90) days after (i) the termination of the Program, or (ii) I voluntarily close my Account, will automatically be cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred.
  5. A consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer of my Points with/to points or miles of other loyalty programs with partners you designate from time to time shall constitute redemption of my Points for all purposes of this Agreement.

12. Limit on Your Responsibility: If you improperly deny me a Reward I select, your liability will be limited to the cash equivalent of that Reward. In no event, will you be liable or responsible for, and I release you from, all claims in respect of any loss or damage suffered by me or others that is caused by:

  1. failure by you to provide me with one or more Points Statement(s);
  2. any errors or omissions in the catalogue(s) and other sources;
  3. redemption of my Points or any problem that I or others have in connection with my Reward. By redeeming my Points for a Reward, I release you from any and all liability and claims regarding the redemption or use of such Reward
  4. redemption of my Points by a Cardholder;
  5. loss or theft of a Reward;
  6. suspension or termination of the Program for any reason;
  7. suspension or termination of my membership in the Program, the closing of my Account or the cancellation or invalidation of any or all of my Points;
  8. cancellation of any Avion Air Travel Reward or RBC Travel Reward;
  9. failure by the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or the Carlson Wagonlit Travel location where the redemption was made to provide me with information which results in travel arrangements that have a higher cost or differ in any way from arrangements which may be available through other sources; and
  10. performance or action of a travel supplier in any way, including the failure of any travel supplier to perform as described. Should circumstances beyond your control result in a supplier's failure to provide an Avion Air Travel Reward or RBC Travel Reward, you may attempt, but are under no obligation, to provide a suitable replacement Avion Air Travel Reward or RBC Travel Reward. In the alternative, you may, but are under no obligation to, credit the Points back to my RBC Rewards Account, and if applicable, money to my Account as well, but will not assume any costs I may incur relating to that Reward.

13. Death/Divorce: Upon the death of an Applicant for a Personal Avion Account who has been awarded Points on the Program, that Applicant's membership will terminate, the Account will be closed and the Points in the RBC Rewards Account will be available for redemption by that Applicant's estate. Points that have not been redeemed as of ninety (90) days after that deceased Applicant's Account is closed, will automatically be cancelled and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred. For a Business Avion Account, the same principles apply upon the death of an individual Business Applicant, Business Owner or Cardholder. Points will not be exchanged for cash. Points are not divisible in case of separation or divorce.

14. Use of Information: You may exchange Program and Account related information about me with other parties, such as participating partners, merchants or service providers, as required to administer the Program or to fulfill my redemption requests under the Program. All collection, use or disclosure of personal information about me shall be in accordance with the RBC Privacy Policy that is available at www.rbc.com/privacy and at any branch of the Bank.

15. Waiver: Any waiver by you of the strict observance, performance or compliance by me of any portion of these Terms and any extension of time or other indulgence granted by you, either expressly or by course of conduct, shall not alter, affect or prejudice any of your other rights or remedies and shall be effective only in the specific instance and for the purpose for which it was given and shall be deemed not to be a waiver of any of your rights and remedies arising in respect of any other breach of these Terms. No delay or omission by you in exercising any right or remedy hereunder shall operate as a waiver of that or any other right or remedy.

16. Tax: Any federal and/or provincial tax liability for any taxes (including but not limited to personal income tax) arising from the accrual (including where permitted, consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer of Points) or redemption of Points or the receipt of a Reward is my responsibility. I understand that you will not issue tax receipts.

If I redeem Points for a Charity Reward, it is the responsibility of the registered charitable organization to issue any tax receipt.

17. Changing the Program and These Terms: You may change the Program and these Terms at any time without giving me notice. Program changes may include, but are not limited to,
(i) changes to any Reward(s),
(ii) changes to the Points required to be redeemed for any Reward, or
(iii) changes to the formula upon which Points are earned.

18. Termination:

  1. You may suspend or terminate the Program at any time upon a ninety (90) days notice to me.
  2. Should events beyond your control, such as strikes, acts of God, terrorism, civil disturbance, war or changes in economic or business conditions, materially affect your willingness to continue the Program as it is then constituted, the Program may be suspended or terminated, in whole or in part, and my Points may be cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred.
  3. You may, without notice, suspend or terminate my membership in the Program, cancel my RBC Rewards Account and my Points upon
    (i) fraud or abuse by me relating to the Program,
    (ii) misrepresentation of information to you,
    (iii) failure by me to follow these Terms,
    (iv) my personal bankruptcy, or
    (v) failure by me to earn any Points in any three (3) consecutive years.
  4. If my Account is closed by you for any reason other than a voluntary request from me that you do so, then my Points shall be automatically cancelled without notice to me and may not subsequently be redeemed, consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred.

19. Communications: So that I do not miss any communication from you about the Program, I will immediately notify you of any changes to my mailing address and other contact information I may have provided to you in connection with the Account. You shall have no liability for any misdirected, lost or delayed mail resulting from my failure to provide you with such notice. You may also communicate with me electronically and any notice or electronic statement of the Account you provide to me, or agreement we make electronically, will be considered to be “in writing”, signed and delivered for all purposes.

20. Interpretation: All questions or disputes regarding the Program and the interpretation of these Terms will be resolved by you in your sole discretion.

21. Points Consolidation, Conversion, Exchange, Combination or Transfer:

  1. Applicants may not consolidate, convert, exchange, combine or transfer Points earned in multiple RBC Rewards Accounts, except as you may permit, and subject to such restrictions and conditions as you may impose, from time to time, in your absolute discretion.
  2. Without limiting the foregoing, a Business Applicant may choose to consolidate, combine and/or transfer into a single designated RBC Rewards Account, all Points earned in respect of all Business Avion Accounts for that Business Applicant. A Business Applicant may also choose to consolidate, combine and/or transfer these Points from this RBC Rewards Account with/to Points in the RBC Rewards Account connected to a Personal Avion Account for which a Business Owner is the Applicant or Co-Applicant. This Points consolidation/combination/transfer feature is limited in that all RBC Rewards Accounts associated with all the Accounts of the Business Applicant must be combined, consolidated and/or transferred with the RBC Rewards Account of one designated Business Owner or other Cardholder, and is subject to such other restrictions as you may impose, in your absolute discretion.
  3. You may permit me to consolidate, convert, exchange, combine or transfer Points with/to points or miles of other RBC Royal Bank loyalty programs, or of loyalty programs with partners you designate from time to time for this purpose, subject to the conditions and restrictions set out in sub-section (d) below. Without limiting the foregoing, the rate of conversion, exchange or transfer of Points in each case will be determined by you, and you may prohibit consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer or limit the number of Points that may be converted, exchanged or transferred, all in your absolute discretion.
  4. In order to qualify for any consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer of Points under sub-sections (a) or (b) or (c) above, I must have an Account in Good Standing, I must be a member in the other loyalty program, and I must be able to satisfy the minimum Points requirements for consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer you set from time to time. Points may only be consolidated, converted, exchanged, combined or transferred with/to points or miles of another loyalty program account in the same name as the Cardholder.
  5. Cathay Pacific^ Asia Miles: I may convert Points to Asia Miles. Once Points are converted to Asia Miles, they must remain in the Asia Miles program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 10,000 Points must be converted, and the Asia Miles account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to Asia Miles, they are subject to the full terms and conditions of the Cathay Pacific Asia Miles program including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods. I will refer to www.asiamiles.com for full program terms and conditions.
  6. British Airways^ BA Miles: I may convert Points to BA Miles. Once Points are converted to BA Miles, they must remain in the British Airways Executive Club^ program and they may not be reversed/returned or converted back to Points. A minimum of 10,000 Points must be converted, and the BA Miles account must be in the same name as the Account. Once the Points have been converted to BA Miles they are subject to the full terms and conditions of the British Airways Executive Club program including, but not limited to, those pertaining to flight booking, seat availability and blackout periods. I will refer to www.ba.com for full program terms and conditions.
  7. Esso Extra^ points: I may exchange Points for Esso Extra points. A minimum of 1,500 Points must be exchanged and can only be exchanged in blocks of 300 Points thereafter. The Esso Extra account must be in the same name as the Account.
  8. Loyalty programs operated by your partners may place additional conditions and restrictions on Points consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer, including minimum and maximum Point limits and restrictions on types of benefits that may be obtained.
  9. I may be charged a service fee for any Points consolidation, conversion, exchange, combination or transfer pursuant to this Section 21. It may take up to four (4) weeks for the points to appear in my account in the other loyalty programs. Points consolidation, conversions, exchange, combination or transfer are final and may not be reversed. I will refer to www.rbcrewards.com for full details.

Redeeming Points for Merchandise, Gift Certificates/Cards, RBC Financial Rewards Vouchers and Charity Rewards

22. General:

  1. I must accumulate the required number of Points for the Reward(s) of my choice at the time of my request. The number of required Points is set out in the applicable catalogue(s) and other sources such as newsletters, direct mail, advertisements, brochures, flyers or Internet or e-mail offers. Any taxes and basic shipping charges (by prepaid delivery service) are included in the value of the Points redeemed for each item that I order. I understand that I may request an alternative shipping arrangement, as set out in Section 24, but at a minimum charge to me of CAD $50.00.
  2. All merchandise offerings are subject to availability. If an item is unavailable exactly as shown, I will be sent a substitute of equal or greater value. In such cases, I will have the option of returning the item at no cost if it does not meet my needs. If no similar item is available, I will be contacted to discuss whether I prefer to cancel or to order an alternate Reward.
  3. The use of gift certificates/cards may be subject to certain terms and conditions set by the merchant issuing the gift certificate/card from time to time.
  4. Points redeemed for RBC Financial Rewards vouchers have a value of CAD $1.00 per 120 Points.
  5. A minimum of CAD $100.00 (equivalent to 12,000 Points) must be redeemed for each RBC Financial Rewards voucher and can only be redeemed in increments of CAD $25.00 (equivalent to 3,000 Points) thereafter.
  6. The highest denomination issued for a RBC Financial Rewards voucher is CAD $500.00; however, there is no limit to the redemption total amount.
  7. You are not responsible for the failure of the issuer to honour the gift certificate/card/voucher for any reason, including the insolvency or bankruptcy of that issuer.

23. How to Place an Order and Redeem your Points: To order merchandise, a gift certificate/card, a RBC Financial Rewards voucher, to redeem my Points for a Charity Reward or for more information about the Program and/or a RBC Rewards Account, I will contact the RBC Rewards Customer Service Centre by calling, toll-free, the number set out below. I may also place an order directly online, via your web site at www.rbcrewards.com or by filling out an order form, a copy of which I can obtain from your catalogue(s) or other sources, including your web site at www.rbcrewards.com. My order form may be mailed or faxed to my RBC Rewards representative at the address and fax number set out below. Whether ordering by telephone, online, by mail or fax, I must ensure that I provide all order information accurately to avoid unnecessary delays.

24. Delivery of Merchandise, Gift Certificates/Cards and Financial Rewards Vouchers: Delivery of merchandise will be made by prepaid delivery service during normal business hours. Gift certificates/cards and RBC Financial Rewards vouchers will be sent by ordinary mail and I assume full responsibility if they are lost or stolen in the mail, unless I request that they be delivered by prepaid delivery service during normal business hours, whenever possible. I may also request expedited delivery by courier, that could take up to five (5) business days and in which case I will be charged a minimum of CAD $50.00.

Deliveries cannot be made to a Post Office Box, rural route or to addresses outside Canada.

While you cannot guarantee any delivery times, average delivery by ordinary mail and prepaid delivery service could take up to three (3) weeks from the time my order is received.

25. Returns of Merchandise, Gift Certificates/Cards and RBC Financial Rewards Vouchers:

  1. I understand that I have a maximum of fifteen (15) days of my receiving delivery to return a Reward. Before returning any Reward, I will contact the RBC Rewards Customer Service Centre representative for full instructions and a return authorization number.
  2. I must retain all packaging and carton material for returns of merchandise. Should any shortages or damages be apparent, I must note them on the delivery receipt before I sign for the Reward.
  3. Merchandise purchased using Points is covered by my Purchase Security and Extended Warranty Insurance5, which doubles most manufacturers' warranties (to a maximum of one (1) additional year) and pays to repair or replace articles which are lost, damaged or stolen during the first ninety (90) days. I will refer to my Certificate of Insurance for more information.

26. Redeeming RBC Financial Rewards Vouchers for Registered and Non-Registered Financial Products:

  1. The RBC Financial Rewards vouchers are made payable to Royal Bank of Canada and are accepted by RBC Dominion Securities Inc. and RBC Direct Investing Inc. if you use them to contribute to a RBC Registered Rewards plan.
  2. I understand that RBC Financial Rewards vouchers can only be processed at my RBC Royal Bank branch through a customer service representative, and cannot be via an Automated Teller Machine (“ATM”).
  3. I understand that RBC Financial Rewards vouchers cannot be deposited into a personal savings or chequing account.
  4. I understand that if I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of any RBC Mortgage, RBC Homeline Plan, Royal Credit Line and/or RBC Personal Loan through the Program, such loan account(s) must be in good standing both at the time my Points are redeemed and at the time the RBC Financial Rewards voucher is applied towards my account;
  5. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of my RBC Mortgage, I understand it may only be applied as a Double-Up® payment. I understand that the minimum Double-Up payment is $100.00 and the payment cannot exceed the total of the principal and interest portions of my regular payment. For example, if I redeemed for three (3) vouchers of $100.00 each but my regular mortgage payment amount is $280.00, I will only be able to apply two (2) of the vouchers (totaling $200.00) to my payment. The other $100.00 voucher could be applied as a Double-Up payment on my next payment date. I also understand that it cannot be used as part of my regular payment and that I am permitted only one Double-Up payment on each payment date.
  6. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of a credit line or mortgage loan segment under my RBC Homeline Plan, I understand it may only be applied towards payment of the outstanding principal of a Royal Credit Line or as a Double-Up payment for a mortgage loan segment under my RBC Homeline Plan account. My payment must be applied towards only one Royal Credit Line or one of my mortgage loan segments under my RBC Homeline Plan and cannot be divided among more than one Royal Credit Line or multiple mortgage loan segments. I understand that the minimum Double-Up payment is $100.00 and the payment cannot exceed the total of the principal and interest portions of my regular payment. For example, if I redeemed for three (3) vouchers of $100.00 each but my regular mortgage payment amount is $280.00, I will only be able to apply two (2) of the vouchers (totaling $200.00) to my payment. The other $100.00 voucher could be applied as a Double-Up payment on my next payment date. I also understand that it cannot be used as part of a regular payment and that I am permitted only one Double-Up payment on each payment date.
  7. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards payment of my Royal Credit Line, I understand it may only be applied as a principal only payment to my Royal Credit Line account and cannot be used as part of my regular monthly payment.
  8. If I wish to use a RBC Financial Rewards voucher towards a contribution to a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I understand that such voucher will be applied to my RRSP or RESP just like a cash contribution. If I already have a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I will visit my RBC Royal Bank branch or my investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities Inc., with my voucher, or send the voucher directly to RBC Direct Investing Inc., as the case may be, and give instructions to make such contribution. If I don’t already have a RBC Registered Rewards plan, I will bring my voucher to my RBC Royal Bank branch, open a RRSP or RESP and give instructions in order to make such contribution.
  9. The use of RBC Financial Rewards vouchers may be subject to other terms and conditions set by you from time to time which are not expressly mentioned in these Terms. I will contact my RBC Royal Bank branch or the RBC Rewards Customer Service Centre, at 1-800 ROYAL 1-2 for full details.

Redeeming Points for Avion Air Travel Rewards and RBC Travel Rewards

27. General:

  1. I may choose to redeem my Points for either Avion Air Travel Rewards or RBC Travel Rewards (collectively, the “Travel Rewards”).
  2. Travel Rewards can be redeemed by calling the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre, at 1-877-636-2870.
  3. I may also redeem my Points for a Travel Reward directly at a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location, at the rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00. A minimum of 2,500 Points must be redeemed. A service charge and other conditions may apply.
  4. I may request a Travel Reward for friends or family whether or not they are accompanying me on the Travel Reward.
  5. If I use the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre to purchase any Travel Reward without using Points for any part of the purchase price, a minimum $25.00 surcharge (before all applicable taxes) will be charged to my Account, per purchase. I may be charged a higher service fee if I book any Travel Reward from a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location.
  6. Avion Air Travel Reward redemptions off the Redemption Schedule require at least a fourteen (14) day advance booking and can only be made through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Center. An airline travel redemption booked within fourteen (14) days of departure will be treated as a RBC Travel Reward.
  7. All Travel Rewards are subject to availability.

28. Redeeming Points for Avion Air Travel Rewards:

  1. Points may be redeemed for Avion Air Travel Rewards in accordance with the Redemption Schedule.
  2. The Redemption Schedule forms part of these Terms. You may amend or replace the Redemption Schedule at your sole discretion at any time without notice to me.
  3. Tickets for domestic, transborder and international airline travel must be booked at least fourteen (14) days in advance.
  4. Airline tickets are economy class round trip tickets and are not refundable.
  5. Avion Air Travel Rewards must include a North American destination.
  6. The airline or carrier and the flight route for my destination are determined solely by you.
  7. The Points redeemed for an Avion Air Travel Reward are in exchange for the airline ticket only, and I am responsible for and must pay all taxes and service fees (including sales, GST, departure and transportation taxes and fees, airport improvement fees, or other taxes), excess baggage charges, immigration fees, governmental fees and levies, customs charges and passenger facilities charges, health or other inspection fees, fuel surcharges and other non-ticket costs or charges which may be imposed.
  8. If the price of an airline ticket that I choose exceeds the Maximum Ticket Price as set out in the Redemption Schedule (exclusive of GST and PST where applicable), then I may redeem my Points to purchase that ticket if (i) I authorize you to charge the difference between the ticket price and the Maximum Ticket Price to my Account, or (ii) I redeem additional Points at the rate of 100 Points to CAD $1.00 and apply that amount as a “top up” towards the cost of an airline ticket that exceeds the Maximum Ticket Price.
  9. When I book my Avion Air Travel Reward I may redeem Points at the rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00 and apply that amount towards any of the taxes or other costs referred to in sub-section (g) above for which I am responsible.
  10. I may request an Avion Air Travel Reward even if I don't have the required number of Points in my RBC Rewards Account, as set out in the Redemption Schedule, by acquiring additional Points from you to make up the shortfall. I understand that such additional Points can only be acquired through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Center. I may acquire these additional Points at the time I make my booking, in increments of 1,000 Points each to a maximum of 15,000 Points, for any Avion Air Travel Reward. I must already have at least 50% of the Points required for that Avion Air Travel Reward in my RBC Rewards Account and must use all of these existing Points for the booking. For each 1,000 additional Points I acquire from you for this purpose, my Account will be charged CAD $40.00 plus applicable taxes. All such Points acquisitions are final.
  11. One stopover is permitted en route to the final destination subject to the conditions of carriage and other specified conditions of the airline issuing the ticket or other applicable travel provider.
  12. The Redemption Schedule contains general descriptions only. You and your agents have absolute discretion to determine which classification in the Redemption Schedule applies to any requested Avion Air Travel Reward. Other destinations in addition to those listed in the Redemption Schedule may be made available by you from time to time.

29. Redeeming Points for RBC Travel Rewards:

  1. Points redeemed for a RBC Travel Reward have a value of CAD $1.00 per 100 Points. Some RBC Travel Rewards are detailed in the applicable catalogue(s) and other sources, such as newsletters, direct mail, advertisements, brochures, flyers or Internet or e-mail offers, where the number of required Points for each Reward is set out. Points may also be redeemed for airline tickets, hotels and car rentals, cruises, Via Rail tickets, tours and other travel packages as determined and offered by the Bank from time to time.
  2. I may request RBC Travel Rewards which exceed the value of the Points I am redeeming, provided such RBC Travel Rewards are part of the same trip and/or are made through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre, or directly at a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location. The difference between the value of the RBC Travel Reward and the value of the Points I am redeeming will be charged to my Account. If, for example, the airline ticket I request has a value of CAD $489.00, I can redeem 40,000 Points and authorize a charge of CAD $89.00 to my Account.
  3. Notice: If I need to book a flight with less than fourteen (14) days notice, I have the ability to redeem my points at a rate of 100 Points per CAD $1.00 (for example, a roundtrip flight from Toronto to New York that costs CAD $450.00, would require the redemption of 45,000 Points).

30. How to Place an Order and Redeem your Points:

  1. The RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre and Carlson Wagonlit Travel locations are exclusively available for my use to request Travel Rewards and other travel arrangements that may be available from time to time for myself or others.
  2. I must make reservations for Travel Rewards through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or directly at a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location; reservations made other than through these services do not qualify as Travel Rewards and cannot be ordered using Points.
  3. The RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre is not a travel supplier, nor a travel agency. I am aware that some supplier or travel agencies offer exclusive arrangements which may not be available for booking through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or at Carlson Wagonlit Travel locations.
  4. Confirmations: Reservations made through the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or through a Carlson Wagonlit Travel location will be confirmed to me in writing no less than fourteen (14) days prior to my departure date, except in cases where time does not permit, in which case I will be notified by phone or fax or e-mail. If my request cannot be confirmed in writing or via e-mail, I will be contacted as soon as possible, usually within a few days. This confirmation serves as proof of purchase and it is my responsibility to check this carefully and notify the RBC Rewards Travel Redemption Centre or the Carlson Wagonlit Travel location where the redemption was made of any discrepancies on the same day I receive this confirmation to possibly avoid travel provider or supplier change and cancellation fees.

31. Insurance: When I book a Travel Reward through the Program, either by using Points or Points plus a charge to my Account, I may be covered by various insurance benefits dependent on my Card. For complete details, I will refer to the Certificates of Insurance for my Card.
